Geek Squad Summer Academy: You know, for kids!

Okay, you’ve just gotten over the fact that your child is better with this whole “computer thing” than you are. What’s the next step? Embrace their love for technology!

Geek Squad Summer Academy has kicked off its sixth annual tour, and it may be coming to a city near you! Summer Academy is a two-day camp oriented toward children and young adults between the ages of 9 and 18. While there, your child will have the chance to learn about a number of topics such as digital music creation, photography, programming, and PC hardware.

“The kids we worked with were always excited to learn something new,” said Agent Christina Davis, who recently participated in a Summer Academy PC hardware class in Charleston, South Carolina.  “I felt privileged to be given the opportunity to teach the children about a subject that I am passionate about. I could see them putting on their thinking caps when we asked them to identify the different functions of computer hardware. Seeing the excitement in their eyes gave me an amazing feeling.”

During Agent Davis’s class, the students learned about the roles of the different components inside a PC. Ultimately, the kids were able to dissassemble and reassemble a desktop computer, and explain what each part does. It was a great experience for everyone involved.

One of the many great things about GSSA is that the Agents are dedicated to make the lessons not just educational, but fun too! On the final day of camp, there was a race between the Agents and the students to see who could rebuild a computer the fastest. And just to level the playing field a little, the Agents had to rebuild while blindfolded. The students won (of course), but only because we haven’t perfected X-ray glasses yet. (Yet…)
